“People show up and do the best they can given what they know, given how empowered they are, given your organizations mission vision and values.”
This quote comes from one of RMS’ vey first CLIMB presentations hosted by the amazing Terri Norvell. Terri is a Certified Business Growth Specialist and If you’ve never watched one of Terri’s presentations, you’re missing out on some of the very best insights on leadership and business growth. You’re also in luck because you can watch (and share!) Terri’s awesome presentation at this link.
There’s way too much good stuff from Terri’s presentation to cover in just on article, but as I revisited the recording from October of 2020, that quote really stuck out to me. Partly because it’s such an amazing representation of what our CLIMB webinar series is all about, but also because it’s an idea we engage with every day at RMS through pharmacy point-of-sale software, training, hardware and support.
I know, it might seem like a stretch at first. A bunch of hardware and a software program make a difference in employee performance? At RMS, we are firm believers that the right point-of-sale solution paired with expert training and proper support can give your employees the knowledge and confidence to succeed. Here’s why:
Knowledge – It’s easy to take knowledge for granted. To assume that someone understands a subject or process because to us it seems self-explanatory or easily intuited. The simple fact is that we each have our own strengths when it comes to knowledge. When we assume a team member understands or has confidence in a business process, we create the potential for mistakes, decreased customer satisfaction, and higher employee turn-over.
Providing proper training to employees on policies, procedures, workflows and pharmacy technology ensures that every team member has the knowledge they need to be successful in their role.
Empowerment – We tend to avoid the things we like doing the least. We want to be confident in the actions we are taking. We want to know that we are good at what we are doing and have a chance of succeeding.
Once you’ve created a foundation with proper training, the next piece of the puzzle is creating a solid support system behind the scenes. Ongoing support and training is incredibly important for continued learning and professional growth. When an employee has the resources, experience and autonomy to keep learning, chances are they’ll do just that. On the flip side of this, if your employees don’t have access to necessary help resources or a clear path for continued professional growth, there’s a good chance you aren’t going to get their best every day. For more on employee training and empowerment, check out this article with some detailed tips on specific things you can do in your pharmacy.
Another important thing you can do to empower your pharmacy team is to make sure they have the best possible tools. Investing in point-of-sale technology that’s built for the needs of your pharmacy business allows employees to keep their focus on your pharmacy customers and providing the best service. Software programs that can automate workflows and reduce errors make it so much easier for every transaction to be a success. Even point-of-sale hardware is a key component. Hardware that works well and contributes to smooth, easy transactions builds confidence as opposed to glitches and issues which can tear it down.
So now to answer the real question. How can RMS help you avoid the pitfalls associated with a lack of knowledge and empowerment. The answer starts with providing the right training and support for your pharmacy team. When we train a pharmacy team, either during the first installation or as a refresher down the road, we’re always striving to make sure everyone thinks the point-of-sale system is crazy-easy. And after training, all RMS customers have access to our support line which is staffed 24 hours a day, 7 days a week with a team of US Based technical specialists.
When it comes to your point-of-sale software and hardware, we are all about creating solutions that help you work smarter, not harder. Our systems are scalable and flexible, allowing you to work with the pharmacy system vendor of your choice and we always offer the latest in technology innovation for a point-of-sale solution that’s custom built to help you reach your goals.
Last, but not least, we encourage every pharmacy to participate in our CLIMB Webinar Series. CLIMB stands for care, lead, innovate, motivate and balance and was created to help every pharmacy become more profitable and customer centric. CLIMB isn’t about the RMS system at all, but it is a great way to find knowledge, inspiration and empowerment, no matter what your role in the pharmacy.
