FAQs

What is the HIPAA Privacy Rule?

The best way to answer this is to send you right to the source. The U.S. Department of Health & Human Services gives a great in-depth explanation on this.

Do we need to recapture signatures when we provide a revised HIPAA Privacy Notice?

The answer to this is NO. HHS did not change the original rule regarding the capturing of signatures. Click this link to the section in the Federal Register covering the privacy notice rules. Section (c)(2) deals with privacy notices for healthcare providers (pharmacies in this case). Section (c)(2)(iv) explains the requirements when a revision occurs and as you can read it does not include the requirement to recapture signatures.

Do I need to background check my employees?

Yes! If they handle prescription drugs, they must be able to pass a background check and have no prior drug-related charges.

Who should I talk to if I need more help with compliance?

You can always talk to us! If you need more help, though, we have worked very closely with RJ Hedges & Associates, the leader in healthcare compliance programs, and highly recommend their consulting services.

We've had the pleasure of (virtually) sitting down with Becky Templeton of RJ Hedges & Associates on several occasions to discuss all things compliance. Check out the below videos for some great information on recent changes and updates!
